Virtual Training Sessions

Working with the local authority to empower SMEs through unprecedented change, by delivering virtual training sessions, case study videos and social media amplification to promote business recovery and adaptation.

The Cheshire West and Chester (CWaC) Business Growth Team has a critical impartial, operational role to encourage and support businesses in developing and growing within the local economy.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused a significant strain on businesses, leading to CWaC launching a recovery project, working with a number of partners, including TMC, to deliver a blend of initiatives that offer business support during this time; and create an effective programme of activities that encouraged a sense of community.

The initiative needed to be structured to fit with the aims and objectives of the CWaC Business Growth Team and align with the Council Plan 2020-2024, to play our part in building greener, fairer and stronger communities.

Our Approach

Our teams began by developing a Cheshire West and Chester online business community, with CWaC providing direct support, facilitating workshops and sharing knowledge to build stronger supply chains.

Our business support was split into four key areas:

Virtual Workshop Sessions

We were tasked with delivering a series of virtual training sessions on demand-led subjects for businesses. The ‘Keeping Connected’ workshop sessions provided an interactive online forum for up to 10 businesses per session. Hosting round table discussions virtually provided an opportunity for businesses to continue to receive business support and training. These sessions included: Maximising Your LinkedIn Presence, Creating Effective Content, Boosting Visibility Through Instagram, and Social Media Automation to Increase Productivity.

Case Study Videos

To showcase businesses within the CWaC area that had shown initiative and a determination to succeed throughout the pandemic, we developed local hero case studies to promote the importance of business recovery and the ability to adapt during the pandemic. This video content was distributed on social media, through the CWaC website and shared with the central government in relation to the wider business and economic recovery. The finished portfolio included; Technoprint, Chester Zoo, Indigo Promotions and a cluster of retail businesses in a variety of sectors.

Social Media Amplification

We supported the programme by creating a social media campaign that shared knowledge and supported businesses, alongside promoting insight and digital tips. The focus was on five core themes, with each theme addressing a specific challenge or opportunity in the current economic climate and beyond.

Lead Generation

Generating business leads to attend the four ‘Keeping Connected’ virtual sessions, we ensured that each training event reached capacity. This was achieved through social media acquisition and outreach via email marketing and telemarketing activities.
